Youth Encounters with Internet Pornography: A Survey of Youth, Caregiver, and Educator Perspectives

Abstract Despite international inquiry regarding young people’s encounters with Internet pornography (IP), there is a lack of knowledge about how their caregivers (parents or guardians) and educators perceive these in comparison to people. Such critical understanding the synergies discrepancies that might exist between key stakeholder groups (youth, educators) across genders, subsequently inform best support youth navigating IP. To this end, present study describes (16–18-year olds) IP, as well caregiver educator perceptions encounters. An online survey was completed by 256 217 recruited from nine schools an existing investment sexuality education Aotearoa, New Zealand. Similar global trends, group Zealanders were familiar IP patterns gendered. However, varied understandings genders why occur. Understanding ways encounter IP—and exploring encounters—serves springboard for future research considers broader socio-cultural context within which perspectives are constructed.
